Questions About Your Cycle
Everything you need to know about our Island Causeway, Great Blasket, and Slea Head routes for retirees
The Island Causeway route is genuinely flat—it follows the coastal road with minimal elevation change, perfect for steady cycling without strain. The Great Blasket viewpoint road has some gentle gradients but nothing steep, and we pace everything around what feels comfortable. Slea Head has a bit more rolling terrain, but we break it into manageable sections with plenty of stops to take in the views.
Most rides run 4–5 hours total, including stops. We're not rushing—there's time built in for photographs at viewpoints, a proper lunch break, and just catching your breath while taking in the scenery. You're cycling maybe 25–35 km depending on the route, which works out to a comfortable pace for active retirees.
That's what we're designed for. We work with cyclists of all abilities—if you can ride a bike and manage moderate effort over a few hours, you'll be fine. We offer support vehicles on all routes, so if you need a break or a lift, it's there. No one gets left behind, and there's zero judgment about taking the easier option.
May through September is ideal—you get long daylight, milder weather, and the coastal roads are at their most beautiful. Late spring (May–June) has fewer tourists, and early autumn (September) offers stable weather with less summer rain. Winter's possible but expect shorter days and rougher Atlantic winds.
We can arrange quality rental bikes fitted to your size and comfort—just let us know when you book. Many people bring their own because they know how their bike handles, which is totally fine. Either way, we'll make sure everything's set up properly before you start.
The viewpoints have patchy signal, but our rest stops and lunch locations usually have WiFi. The real magic is experiencing it in person—the photos will be brilliant anyway, and you'll have plenty of time to share them later when you're back somewhere with proper connection.
